Description
After premiering Another Set To, Christian Lindberg very much wanted Mark-Anthony Turnage to enlarge the work to full concerto length, and the opportunity arose with the opening of the Casa da Música in Porto and in the context of Turnage's long-term relationship with the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
The first movement is an adaptation of the seventh movement of Blood on the Floor (1994-95); the central slow movement was newly composed to complete the work. And the concerto ends on a rousing note with the original Another Set To. The work requires formidable technique and a wide expressive range and incorporates a variety of special effects such as glissandos (slides), flutter- tonguing and particularly in the slow movement singing while playing. Lindberg has recorded the work twice, with the LPO and the Oslo Philharmonic.
