The war in Ukraine continues to shock the whole world as millions of people are leaving their homes and communities in search of peace. Among them, the renowned Ukrainian composer, Valentin Silvestrov, who celebrates his 85thbirthday in September. Originally, Silvestrov did not want to leave Kiev, but as the war progressed he and his family were forced to flee to Berlin, where the composer has been living and composing since 8 March. His Prayer for the Ukraine, composed in 2014, is now seeing performances in concert halls around the world.
Can classical music and jazz harmonise simultaneously? Nikolai Kapustin's Concerto No. 5 proves it's possible. The piece is set for its German debut, performed by the Junge Norddeutsche Philharmonie under the baton of Kiril Stankow. This remarkable event took place on August 6, 2023, in Bunderhee as a part of the Tidal Concerts, with Frank Dupree gracing the solo piano.

A debut work at the age of almost 80: The new opera Valuska is the first of Peter Eötvös' 13 operas that the Hungarian composer wrote in his native language. Eötvös celebrates his 80th birthday on 02 January 2024. To mark this occasion, the new work will be premiered on 02 December 2023 at the Hungarian State Opera Budapest. It will be conducted by Kálmán Szennai and staged by Bence Varga.
