Description

This farce oriented towards the comedies of Eugène Scribe and Victorien Sardou which is a blend between the absurd (the progressive multiplication of the actors under the influence of alcohol) and the banal (a married man is discovered attempting to enter into a new marriage) unleashes an impressive firework display of bizarre dialogues. Numerous musical and theatrical influences from the late 1920s can be detected in Triple-Sec and the topical genres of opera and cabaret would exert a particular long-term influence on the then only 23-year-old composer. The relationship between Blitzstein and Hindemith and his strong affinity with the Roaring Twenties make Triple-Sec eminently suitable in combination with Hin und zurück.
