Description
Through Interior Worlds, a ballet for orchestra, is an exploration of the feminine and masculine aspects of the human persona. The ballet is a vibrant example of Joseph Schwantner’s eclectic musical language as well as his mastery of dramatic timbral effects and orchestral colors. Like many of Schwantner’s works, Through Interior Worlds was inspired by poetry, in this case his own. Though his works are never strictly programmatic, Schwantner’s music conjures powerful poetic imagery. He writes “I make no pretensions of being a poet. The verse is just a preliminary, pre-conscious apparatus.”
