Aaron Copland's An Outdoor Overture was composed for orchestra in 1938 for the High School of Music and Art in New York City, then transcribed for wind band in 1941.
This adaptation by James Curnow features the primary themes from the original work in a concise, yet bold and appealing format. The music itself is an example of Copland in his prime, with buoyant themes expressing a sense of optimism and joy.
