Description

Based on a Scottish folk-tale from the Orkney Islands where Peter Maxwell Davies lived the last four decades of his life, The Hogboon is a children’s opera for a combination of professional musicians, students and children. Magnus, the seventh son of a seventh son, is taunted by his brothers for refusing to help on the farm. Still, he is sure he is destined for great deeds of valour. His chance comes when the sea monster Nuckleavee threatens to destroy the village unless he is fed six young ladies and the Princess. Magnus and the friendly spirit, the Hogboon, devise a plan to scare off Nuckleavee and save the ladies and the village.
