Description
This piece was commissioned by the Ensemble Intercontemporain as the eighth piece for their cycle named 'Genesis'. The theme of the work is 'The Flood'. The Japanese are only too familiar with flooding: not only the Tsunami in 2011, but also typhoons and heavy rain, as Japan is frequently hit by floods. Furious floods demonstrate the forces of nature and fill us with fear, awe and respect at the same time. In this piece, the wave of sound with crescendo and decrescendo is repeated, then a whirlpool of sound is created which triggers off simultaneous feelings of fear and desperation. Toshio Hosokawa
