Description
For decades, Krzysztof Penderecki has been one of the pivotal figures of the international music scene. By composing works like St. Luke's Passion or Polish Requiem, Penderecki has both created musico-historical milestones and made political confessions. The compositional development of the Polish master can be seen especially in his eight symphonies, starting from Symphony No. 1 premiered in 1973 to the monumental work Seven Gates of Jerusalem (Symphony No. 7) composed for the city's 3000th anniversary to Symphony No. 8 "Lieder der Vergänglichkeit" (Songs of Transience) completed in 2007. With Symphony No. 6 (Chinese Songs), the last symphony to be finished and premiered in China in 2017, Penderecki's eight contributions to the symphonic genre are now completed. For Krzysztof Penderecki's 85th birthday in November 2018, the symphonies were published as study scores in a high-quality boxed set.
