Sacrosanto

This violin concerto has five movements of which the first three form a single unit together with the final movement. In contrast, the fourth movement takes up a special position, presenting a completely different type of music, almost like an unexpected event which bursts suddenly in on a life, irrevocably altering its course. This movement is entitled ‘Sacrosanto e devoto’, i.e. sacrosanct and devotional.

Herbert Willi maintains here the joyous confiding tone which already characterised his work ABBA-MA (Echo of Piece) for choir and orchestra. His personal credo also shines through in this new composition: ‘Allowing sounds to unfold in tranquillity and unintentionality is the most wonderful thing I can imagine.’ (Herbert Willi)
