Orion over Farne

John Casken takes the idea of ‘journeying towards unknown destinations’ as the starting point for this work which is based on the Greek legend of Orion and the poet Basil Bunting’s musings on the Northumbrian night sky. The two blend magically together creating a rich musical imagery across the works four sections; ‘Orion the hunter’, ‘Sea voyage towards the sun’, ‘Flight from the scorpion and death of Orion’, and finally ‘Artemis’s grief and Orion’s ascent among the stars’.
