Orbe rotundo

Orbe rotundo – ’The world is round’ – is composed for the same forces as Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana and can be performed in conjunction with it as a ’scenic depiction of the seasons through the year’ in a fulllength concert. The libretto not only contains texts from Carmina Burana but also mediaeval lyric poetry and extracts from the Bible, all depicting a colourful panoply of life, magic and death. Spring is followed by a demonic Walpurgisnacht, May and a Midsummer festival in celebration of fire. Then comes Autumn in praise of creation and the pleasures of drinking. Winter conjures up death and a requiem, but this merely provides the transition for a renewed ecstatic celebration of spring. Enjott Schneider
