No. 30

(NONcerto for orchestra, cello and high soprano)
orchestra, cello (very slightly amplified) and high soprano
No.30a (Schnell aber nicht immer) became the first movement of No.30 (NONcerto for orchestra, cell, and soprano) when the Aldeburgh Festival commissioned a further two movements, and thus completing the piece. It was first performed by the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sakari Oramo, with Anu Komsi and Anton Lukoszevieze as the soprano and cello soloists respectively. "The Soprano finds fragments of a melody which she eventually sings together with the orchestra. The cello is unable to communicate. He is alone."
