Description

Steffen Krebber’s music explores relationships ‒ of compositional, semiotic, and medial kind. In this context, his CD/DVD portrait in the series EDITION ZEITGENÖSSISCHE MUSIK is reflecting itself as carrier medium, which is more than just a storage possibility among many others.

On a musical level, Krebber’s work focusses on references and connections between different materials, styles, and forms. The idea of a ‘networking mélange’ is essential in this context. In Krebber’s view, nowadays ‘the separation of media and genres has dissolved, even if it only happened gradually. Everything overlaps referentially and bursts its formerly predefined bounds.’ Sonic materials interlock, uninterruptedly creating new relations, e.g. in the series “Konfusionen” (‘confusions’). Therein music from different spaces and times clashes: Papua New Guinea and Gabon, Renaissance and present.

The result of the combination of varied elements ‒ performed by Ensemble Garage, LUX:NM, and Sonar Quartett among others ‒ are manifold musical organisms. Sometimes they seem to consist of reminiscences, sometimes of forthcoming visions. Nevertheless they are musical beings of the here and now.
