Description

The title "Musies of Sicily“ is taken from the beginning of Virgil's Eclogue IV, although Henze has not actually set any of this poem in his "concerto vocale e strumentale". Henze believes that in this music (as in his 5th Symphony and other compositions of this period), the world of Rome, particularly of the Castelli Romani, his chosen home, becomes audible, if not visible.
