Product Details

Description

Commissioned by the British Broadcasting Corporation in 1991 for the bicentenary of Mozart’s death, this 10-minute orchestral piece is a gentle reflection upon sampled passages from the G-minor Symphony KV 550 – predominantly the Andante. A ground-line is formed from the sequence of pitch-letters in Mozart’s given names: Johann Chrysostom Wolfgang
Theophilus, and is decorated by the Mozart and other related material. The
‘sampler’ in the title refers as much to this process as to the traditional exercise in decorative embroidery particularly fashionable in Mozart’s time.
