Description
Nino Rota was prompted to compose his opera La vita di Maria through the inspiration of his friend Beppe Menegatti who was planning a choreography focused on the life of the Virgin Mary. The libretto by Vinci Verginelli is based on Latin and Greek texts representing the integrity of Mary and her many different facets. Rota successfully employs stylistic elements originating from Italian neo-classicism and a symphonic compositional structure to create a spiritual vocal work as a musical representation of the life of Mary, Mother of God.
