Description

Inspired by ideas provided by children, Hop et Rats is an initiation story about the diversity of different cultures, as well as the power of art and its ability to resist all forms of oppression. A group of children under the rule of a totalitarian regime of rats find their way back to happiness and freedom: thanks to a magical scheme, the children discover visual art (the colours of Chagall), poetry (a short story by Pushkin) and music (Tchaikovsky). The opera is infused with allusions to hip-hop, Russian music and carnival and is sung throughout by a children’s choir with a mezzo-soprano. Thierry Pécou
