Description

Fazıl Say, to whom the International Beethoven Prize for Human Rights was awarded in 2016, reflects on the events in Istanbul in May / June 2013 in his cycle Gezi Park

Gezi Park 3
, first composed as a ballad for soprano, piano and string orchestra, is a wordless plaintive meditation on the escalation of violence caused by the severe police response. This version for mezzo-soprano and piano, which appeared on the CD Secrets, was written for recitals with Marianne Crebassa. It can also be performed directly after the piano sonata Gezi Park 2.
