Die Musik berichtet vom Versagen der Sprache.

In this work, Igor Stravinsky uses clearly structured melodies in delicate polyphony to describe the initial construction of the tower and block-like chords when the choir intones the words of God. The compositional structure becomes more complex in the subsequent depiction of linguistic confusion and the scattering of the peoples: Stravinsky shifts the accentuation, multiplies the melodies and extends the harmony. The music represents the breakdown of language.
