About Valentin Potapov

Valentin Potapov (born in 1939 in Simferopol in Crimea) completed his cello studies with Sviatoslav Knushevitsky in 1962 at the Moscow Conservatory and in 1966 became a graduate student at the Kiev Conservatory (with Vadim Chervov). Since 1962, Potapov has played in various Ukrainian orchestras and appeared as a soloist and chamber musician. He has given over 1000 concerts in all the major cities of the Soviet Union (including the Ukraine) and abroad. In addition to the most important classical concertos, his repertory includes pieces by classical and modern Ukrainian composers such as Boris Lyatoshinsky, Andriy Shtoharenko, Yevgeni Stankovich, Ivan Karabits, and Vladimir Guba. From 1971 to 1982, Potapov taught at the Kiev Conservatory.
