About Stefan Hussong

Stefan Hussong, born in Köllerbach on the river Saar, is a graduate of the Study Foundation of the German People, the DAAD, the Academy “Schloss Solitude” and the Baden-Württemberg Arts Foundation. In both 1983 and 1987 he won first prizes at the International Hugo Herrmann Competition as well as the International Gaudeamus Interpreters Competition for contemporary music. In 1999 Hussong received the ECHO Klassik Award of the German Record Academy in the category “Best Instrumentalist of the Year”. The same year, his first solo CD with works by John Cage, released by Denon, was voted “Best Record of the Year”. Hussong has premiered more than 100 works dedicated to him, and he has already recorded 30 CDs, for which he has received several prizes. Hussong gave concerts throughout Europe, Russia, USA (his New York debut in 1996), Japan (Tokyo debut in 1991), Korea, Taiwan, India, etc, with orchestras including the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, the Berlin Philharmonic, the Vienna Philharmonic, the Tokyo Sinfonietta, Ensemble Intercontemporain, Ensemble Modern, Klangforum Wien, the Saarbrücken Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Tokyo Shin Nippon Philharmonic Orchestra. He is professor of accordion and chamber music at the Würzburg Musikhochschule.
