About Simon Gaudenz

Simon Gaudenz is the Musical Director and Principal Conductor of the Jena Philharmonic Orchestra. He has earned a reputation as an innovative interpreter of the classical repertoire with a fresh perspective based on historically informed performance practice, an approach that has also characterized his more than seven-year association with the Hamburg Camerata.

Since winning two of Europe’s most prestigious competitions, including the German Conducting Prize, Gaudenz has performed with many of the world’s most prominent orchestras, including the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Bavarian State Orchestra, Staatskapelle Dresden, Orchestre National de France, Tonhalle Orchestra Zürich, Russian National Philharmonic, Oslo Philharmonic, Bamberg Symphony, WDR Symphony Orchestra, NDR Radio Philharmonic, DSO Berlin, Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI, the radio orchestras in Berlin, Munich, Stuttgart, and Saarbrücken, and the orchestras in Monte Carlo, Lyon, and Luxemburg.

Simon Gaudenz has worked with soloists such as Gidon Kremer, Anne-Sofie von Otter, Barbara Bonney, Renaud Capucon, Arabella Steinbacher, Sabine Meyer, Lauma Skride, Lise de la Salle, Marianna Shirinyan, Julian Steckel, and many others.

From 2004 to 2011, he was Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the
Collegium Musicum Basel, and was a founding member and Artistic Director of camerata variabile basel until 2004. As principal Guest Conductor of the Odense Symphony Orchestra, he made a number of recordings with works by Mozart and Schumann.
