About Ruth Zechlin

Ruth Zechlin was a well-known German Democratic Republic female composer. She was born in Grosshartmannsdorf, Saxony, and studied at the Leipzig Academy of Music (under Johann Nepomuk David, Karl Straube, and Günther Ramin, among others). Zechlin taught at Berlin's Hanns Eisler Academy of Music from 1950 until her retirement in 1986. Her compositional output, which encompassed practically all genres, was acknowledged with honours and awards both domestically and internationally. Zechlin also performed as a harpsichordist and organist.
