About Richard Kindley

The American Richard Kindley studied at California State University in Fresno as well as at the Meistersinger Conservatory in Nuremberg, where in 1979 he was awarded the Drechsler Prize. After completing his studies, the young tenor, specializing in both Heldentenor and operetta roles, joined the opera company in Nuremberg, where he has been a member of the ensemble since 1980. Here he has been seen – in addition to guest engagements in Germany and abroad – in roles such as Boris (Katja Kabanova), Orpheus (Orpheus in the Underworld), Alfred (Die Fledermaus), Max (Der Freischütz), Bacchus (Ariadne auf Naxos), Cavaradossi (Tosca), Florestan (Fidelio), the Witch (Hänsel und Gretel), Froh (Das Rheingold), and Balthasar Zorn (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg).  He sang the principal tenor role in the premiere of Babette Koblenz’s Recherche, a production which was also presented at the Biennale in Munich in 1999. His repertoire also includes Octavio (Giuditta), Sergej (Lady Macbeth of Minsk), Peter Grimes, Mime in Rheingold, and Siegfried.
