About Omar Ebrahim

Omar Ebrahim was born in 1956 in Greasbrough, England. He studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, the Royal Shakespeare Company and with the Glyndebourne Chorus. As an opera singer, Ebrahim is mainly heard in the area of contemporary opera appearing with companies such as Glyndebourne, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Munich Biennale, Tanglewood, City of Birmingham Touring Opera, Almeida Opera, in Basel, South Bank Centre London, Holland Festival, La Monnaie Brussels and Theatre du Chatelet Paris. Ebrahim sung in the premiere performances of Liza Lim’s “The Navigator” in Brisbane, Melbourne and Moscow. In 2008, Ebrahim was featured in the premiere of Enno Poppe’s “Arbeit Nahrung Wohnung” with Ensemble musikFabrik at the Munich Biennale. He performs regularly with Ensemble Modern, Ensemble Intercontemporain, London Sinfonietta as well as the Northern Sinfonia, Ensemble musikFabrik, Bochum Symphony and the Netherlands Radio Chamber Philharmonic. In 2005 he premiered James Woods’ oratorio “Hildegard 2000” with performances in the United Kingdom and Holland.

Dozens of performances of Ligeti’s “Aventures”and “Nouvelles Aventures”with Pierre Boulez and Ensemble Intercontemporain, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Los Angeles Philharmonic New Music Group and Ensemble Modern. In 2010/2011 he performed in Philip Glass’ “In the Penal Colony”at Linbury Theatre Covent Garden and on tour, the premiere of Dirk d’Ases’s “L’intruse”at the Flemish Opera as well as Enno Poppe’s “Interzone”with Ensemble Mosaik in Huddersfield and s’Hertogenbosch.
