Monica  Gutman

Country of origin: Romania
Pianist Monica Gutman was born in Bucharest, Romania, where she performed in concerts and on television from the age of ten. She studied in Germany at the Musikhochschule in Detmold. A grant from the British Council made it possible for her to study in London with Louis Kentner, one of the most important interpreters of the works of Franz Liszt in the 20th century. Gutman later studied in Hanover with Vladimir Krajnev and took part in master classes with György Sebök and Bruno Giuranna.
Gutman has performed throughout Germany as well as in Great Britain, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Spain, Canada, Australia, South Africa, and the USA. In addition to her work as a solo performer, Gutman has been an assistant professor at the University of Music and Representative Art in Frankfurt since 2001, and her repertoire covers works from the Baroque until the modern age. Numerous recordings by various German broadcasters document Monica Gutman’s special interest in unusual and seldom-heard repertoire.
Her recordings on CD include compositions by Erwin Schulhoff, Johanna Senfter, Franz Liszt, George Enescu, and Dinu Lipatti. In 2009, the CD “Hebräische Melodie” featured Monica Gutman and the violinist Marat Dickermann performing works by Joseph Achron, Joseph Kaminski, Alexander Weprik, Joachim Stutschewsky, Lazare Saminsky, and Julius Engel. A CD with works by Paul Hindemith’s composition teacher Bernhard Sekles (1872–1934) appeared in 2011. “The Ocean House Concert” includes music by Beethoven, Schubert, Liszt, Chopin, Mendelssohn, and Debussy.
