Minguet Quartett

About Minguet Quartett

The Minguet Quartet was founded in 1988 and currently comprises Ulrich Isfort (Violin I), Annette Reisinger (Violin II), Aroa Sorin (Viola) and Matthias Diener (Violoncello). They take their name from Pablo Minguet, a Spanish philosopher of the 18th century, who sought to help the common people to gain access to the fine arts.

Today the Minguet Quartet are counted amongst the most sought-after international string quartets and have played in the greatest concert halls and music festivals of Europe: the Wigmore Hall in London, the Cologne and Berlin Philharmonics, the Vienna Konzerthaus and the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, as well as the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Schwetzingen Festival, Kis singen Summer Festival, Festival d’Automne in Paris, the Edinburgh Festival, Berlin Festival, Salzburg Festival, and the Munich Biennale. Concert tours have taken them to Israel, Japan, China, Central and Southeast Asia, North Africa, New sea land, Canada, Central America and the USA.

Their mainstream repertoire comes from the classical-romantic period, but they have also given countless premieres of contemporary music. Their encounters with famous contemporary composers have inspired the four musicians to create many new programme ideas. Amongst their most memorable projects have been the first complete recordings of the string quartets of Wolfgang Rihm, Peter Ruzicka and Jörg Widmann. Partners are, among others, the sopranos Mojca Erdmann and Claron McFadden, the baritone Christian Gerhaher, the clarinetists Sharon Kam and Jörg Widmann, the pianists Andrea Lecchesini and Grau Schumacher, the violist Gérard Caussé, the actor Michael Degen, the Huelgas Ensemble, the Bruckner Orchestra Linz, the HR and the WDR Symphony Orchestras with their conductors Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Markus Stenz and Peter Ruzicka.

In 2010, the Minguet Quartet was awarded the ECHO KLASSIK prize for the recording of Peter Ruzicka’s string quartets.
