Marcus  Creed

Marcus Creed (born in Eastbourne, Sussex in 1951) began his studies at Kings College in Cambridge and continued them at Christ Church College in Oxford, as well as at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. After moving to Germany, he settled in West Berlin in 1977. He was initially a coach and later chorus director at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin and taught in the Song Department at the Berlin Hochschule der Künste (now: Universität der Künste – University of the Arts). In Berlin, he also worked with the Gruppe Neue Musik “Hanns Eisler” and with the Scharoun Ensemble as pianist and conductor. In 1987, he became the artistic director of the RIAS Chamber Choir, which in the following years received numerous international awards. He has also conducted
the Berlin Academy for Early Music, the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, and the Concerto Cologne, as well as the Staatskapelle Berlin and the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin. He has also appeared at many international festivals, such as Wien Modern and the Salzburg festival.

In 1998, he was appointed professor of choral conducting at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Cologne. Marcus Creed has been principal conductor and artistic director of the SWR  Vokalensemble Stuttgart since 2003. In 2010, Creed was awarded the European Church Music Prize. His work is documented in numerous CD recordings.
