Malika  Kishino

Born: July 16th, 1971
Country of origin: Japan

Malika Kishino was born in Kyoto, Japan, in 1971. After taking a degree in law in Kyoto (1994) she began to study composition with Yoshihisa Taira at the L’Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris, and later with Robert Pascal at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Lyon (1999–2003) and a year-long cursus program for composition and computer music at IRCAM in Paris (2004–05).

She has frequently appeared at such international festivals as Ultraschall Berlin, ensembl[:E:]uropa (WDR), Forum Neue Musik (hr), Présences (Radio France), Biennale Musiques en Scène (Lyons), Multiphonies (GRM, Paris), Musica (Strasbourg), Rai NuovaMusica, Alicante Music Festival, and Ultima (Oslo).

She has worked inter alia with the Orchestre National de Lyon, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester (Berlin), Frankfurt RSO, Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI, Oslo Sinfonietta, Ensemble Orchestral Contemporain, and Ensemble musikFabrik, and with conductors of the stature of Pascal Rophé, Daniel Kawka, Fabrice Pierre, Lucas Vis, Christian Eggen, and Jean-Michaël Lavoie.

Among her awards and honors are the 70th Japan Music Competition (2001), first prizes at the Concours de GRAME and the Ensemble Orchestral Contemporaine (2006), and scholarships from the Experimental Studio of Southwest German Radio (2007, 2009), the Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe (2008), the Schloss Solitude Academy (2008, 2009), the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia (2010), and the Schreyahn Artists Village (2011).
