About Lounge Lizards

That’s what happens when fun becomes serious: The Lounge Lizards, formed in the late seventies in New York’s downtown scene around the cult figure and actor John Lurie, called their mixture of jazz and avant garde rock ‘Fake Jazz’. The insider gang rapidly transformed into a travelling circus and was amazingly successful in Europe. Its perhaps most exciting and constantly varying personnel packed the Quartier Latin in Berlin for several nights. The memorable concerts were not only filmed, but also preserved for posterity on two CDs. The musicians at those concerts have incidentally gone on to form successful groups such as Slow Poke (with Michael Blake), Medeskie, and Martin & Wood.
