About Klavierduo Bächli|Schneider

Gertrud Schneider is a pianist who specializes in communicative programs that combine new and old music. She has been featured on numerous radio broadcasts and CDs. She teaches at the Konservatorium für Musik Biel and the Bern University of the Arts (HKB). One main focus of her work are outreach programs that introduce children to music. She has won numerous prizes and awards (Medaille am Concours De Genève—Geneva International Music Competition, Zurich Radio Prize for the best radio broadcast of the year from Swiss Radio DRS, The Grand Prize in Music from the canton Bern).
Tomas Bächli, pianist and writer on music, studied piano with Werner Bärtschi at the Zurich Conservatory. Following his studies, he was an active concert artist in Zurich and then in Brooklyn, NY. Since 1999, he has been based in Berlin. Although he is not totally specialized in new music, he mostly performs works from the recent past and today. In his search for the ideal setting for both the music and the audience, he often experiments with new concert formats. His most recent book is "Ich heiße Erik Satie wie alle anderen auch" (Berlin 2016).
The Piano Duo Bächli|Schneider was formed in 1986 to explore the quarter-tone music of Charles Ives and Ivan Wyschnegradski. Over the years, numerous composers have written for the duo, which today has a built up a varied repertoire of quarter-tone pieces, and they have been awarded the BAT Prize for the performance of quarter-tone music. They have performed at major festivals in Europe, the US, and Canada.
