About Jens Peter Maintz

Jens Peter Maintz won the First Prize in the 1994 ARD Competition and shortly afterwards was appointed solo cellist with the DSO Berlin, a position he held until 2004. Since then, he has been the cello professor at the University of the Arts in Berlin. In 2006, he became solo cellist with the Lucerne Festival Orchestra under Claudio Abbado and Riccardo Chailly.

Maintz has worked with numerous distinguished conductors and is a popular chamber music partner, e.g. in the duo Cello Duello with Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt. His CD with works by Bach, Dutilleux, and Kodály received an ECHO Klassik prize; his CD with Haydn’s cello concertos was also well received. Maintz plays the “Ex-Servais” cello by Giovanni Grancino from 1697.
