About François-Xavier Roth

François-Xavier Roth, born in 1971, is the Principal Conductor of the Southwest German Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra in Baden-Baden and Freiburg. He has been General Music Director of the city of Cologne since 2015. His repertoire ranges from music of the seventeenth century to contemporary works and encompasses all genres: symphonic, operatic, and chamber music. In 2003, he founded the innovative orchestra Les Siècles. With the SWR Symphony Orchestra, he continues performances and recordings of the complete cycle of symphonic poems by Richard Strauss, and is also developing a cycle devoted to the music of Pierre Boulez. He is the conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra’s groundbreaking Panufnik Young Composers Scheme and, with the Festival Berlioz and Les Siècles, he founded the Jeune Orchestre Européen Hector Berlioz, an orchestra academy with its own collection of period instruments.
