About Enrico Belli

Enrico Belli first trained with Franco Scala at the Conservatorio Statale di Musica G. Rossini in Pesaro, and then at the Accademia Pianistica Incontri col Maestro in Imola where he received his master’s degree after studying with pianists Vladimir Ashkenazy, Lazar Berman, Maurizio Pollini. Meeting and studying with the musicologist Piero Buscaroli were fundamental.
After completing his classical training, centred mainly on Beethoven, Schubert, and Brahms, he won first prize in the Internationaler Schubert Wettbewerb in Dortmund in 1999. In the following years he performed recitals in many major European cities (London, Madrid, Milan, Munich, Paris, and Vienna) with orchestras conducted, among others, by Gustav Kuhn, Vladimir Jurowsky, and Paolo Olmi. The Thorofon label released a CD of his performances of music by Schubert and Mussorgsky, recorded live on RadioRaiTre (Italian cultural channel).
Since 2001 he has felt the need to widen his repertoire and deepen his knowledge of the music of modern times; he thus began research that has led him to more unusual choices, in particular bringing contemporary music together with traditional repertoire. There have been various recital projects in this field: the performance of the works of Giacinto Scelsi alongside keyboard works by Girolamo Frescobaldi; the complete works for solo piano and ensemble by Jana3ek, in addition to the premiere of "Frammento Blu" (dedicated to him) by Gilberto Cappelli (Abbiati Prize, 2001), which was filmed by Sky Classic; and a recent plan to record all four volumes of "Makrokosmos" by George Crumb together with important works from the past. The experience of Perpianosolo Meeting, for which he works extensively, has been fundamental. It is a festival in which pianists, composers, actors, directors, dancers, painters, photographers, and so on, collaborate in a fruitful, reciprocal exchange of ideas that transcends the confines of specific cultural horizons.
