Choir of the Janácek Opera of Brno

About Choir of the Janácek Opera of Brno

Without any doubt, the Choir of the Janáček Opera of the National Theatre Brno with their more than 60 members ranks among the leading choir ensembles not only in the Czech Republic, but in the European context as well. High musical appreciation of the members, some of whom even sing solo parts, the sound balance and the ability of fine nuances are among the basic artistic characteristics of the choir. Apart from the participation in major opera productions, which are the choir's domain, the forte of the choir also lies in the interpretation of cantatas and oratories. Among others, the choir attracted attention by a successful production of Dvořák's "St. Ludmila", "Jeanne d'Arc au bucher" by Honegger, "Glagolitic Mass" by Janacek and "Resurrection" by J. Haydn where they introduced themselves as an outstanding concert body. Great success was achieved abroad as well, for example on the European tour with Beethoven's 9th Symphony, "Carmina Burana" by Carl Orff, "Dvořák's Requiem" or within the scope of annual tours in Japan, where the choir performed productions of the operas "Don Giovanni", "Tosca", "Carmen", "Magic Flute" and "Aida".
