About Antonio Pappano

Sir Antonio Pappano is one of today’s most sought-after conductors, acclaimed for his charismatic leadership and inspirational performances in both symphonic and operatic repertoire. Since 2005, Pappano has been Music Director of the Orchestra dell’ Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome.

He has appeared as a guest conductor with many of the world’s most prestigious orchestras, including the Berlin, Vienna, New York, and Munich Philharmonic orchestras, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam, and many others. Highlights of the 2018/2019 season and beyond include the complete Wagner Ring Cycle, productions of Tannhäuser, as well as Verdi’s Forza del Destino and Otello at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.

In 2012, Antonio Pappano was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II for his services to music, and in the same year he was appointed Cavaliere di Gran Croce dell’Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana. In May 2015, he received the gold medal of the Royal Philharmonic Society, the Society’s highest honour.
