Description

Originally, Krzysztof Penderecki composed this short Adagietto as an additional orchestral intermezzo for the opera Paradise Lost. It can be heard in the second act during mankind’s first night of love in the Garden of Eden – a moment of innocence for which Penderecki found very gentle, elegiac sounds. The Adagietto quickly became a popular concert piece in its own right. In 2006, Penderecki created a version for cor anglais and string orchestra.
