Aalaiki'ssalaam

Aalaiki'ssalaam

für Orchester

  • Instrumentation: orchestra
  • Edition: performance material

Description
This work was inspired by the tragic events of the summer of 2006 in the Middle East, particularly in Lebanon, and is intended as a testimony of peace and joy.

Aalaiki'ssalaam [Peace be with you] is a Marian Maronite melody which is developed here in a set of seven variations. The first variation employs joyful melismatic ornamentation. Variations tow and three are based on rhythmic ostinati and are linked to a powerful and dark Marcia (Variation four). Variation seven is articulated in three sections progressing from an initial habanera and tonal, rhythmic and dynamic graduation to culminate in a brilliant and joyful coda. (Naji Hakim)

Originally composed for organ (ED 20147): following the edition of this work for piano (ED 20800), the composer has now produced an orchestral version.
