This year will see the 140th birthday of Igor Stravinsky – on 5 June according to the Julian calendar, on 17 June according to the Gregorian calendar. “Composers combine notes, that’s all” Stravinsky once remarked ironically to his friend and assistant Robert Craft. One look at the sheer number and breadth of performances shows the effect and worldwide reception his music receives.
