Schott wishes all the best to the composer and editor Barbara Heller for her 85th birthday on 6 November 2021. She studied piano and composition (with Hans Vogt and Harald Genzmer) and worked as a pianist and piano teacher for many years. Today Barbara Heller lives at Darmstadt as a freelance composer. Her musical output encompasses mainly piano works and chamber music. Some works have been recorded by WERGO on the CD “Herbstmusik“ (WER 51232) and “Scharlachrote Buchstaben“ (WER 66102). Some of her most important works are „Sound traces“ for piano, “Hundertmelodienbuch“ for solo recorder and “Lalai – A lullaby to awaken you?“, which was composed in 1989 as a sign of solidarity with Iran women which had been opressed by the Iran regime. “Lalai“ exists in different versions: for violin and piano, cello and piano, piano trio. As the Co-Founder of the “Arbeitskreis Frau und Musik” (working group for women and music) Barbara Heller retained a special commitment to the music of female composers in her series “Frauen komponieren/Women composers“, as their works still do not get enough recognition.
Happy Birthday, Barbara Heller!
